L’hiver a-t-il été dur sur votre maison?

Has winter been hard on your home?

With spring, comes a long list of chores that need to be done before we can enjoy the warmer weather and its promise of nice summer days. The maintenance of the house and yard are the first places to start.

Here are a few tips:

  • First of all, how is your roof doing? Has it suffered the repercussions of Mother Nature, especially with all the snow that fell on us this winter? Check the siding, but also the chimney, plumbing vents and flashings if necessary.
  • And how did your siding hold up? Inspect for cracks, poorly anchored or loose material, etc.
  • If your home is made of brick or stone, watch for crumbling or broken pieces, cracked joints or empty mortar, and outward swelling.
  • And what about your gutters? The snow and ice may have damaged or weakened them. Check that there is no water infiltration.

If you detect a problem, call a specialist immediately.

HEATING SEASON IS OVER BUT…

Once the heating season is over, it is important to have your chimney swept and furnace cleaned.

If it is a forced-air system, change the filters for the next season.

Also pay attention to your humidifier and any ventilation device. See here how to properly maintain your humidifier: https://www.yellowpages.ca/tips/how-and-when-to-clean-your-humidifier/?theme=yellowpages

Regarding your ventilation device, it is best to refer to the user manual.
